On 24 August 1999, Bodo Franke, President of the Board of Farbwerke Herkula St.Vith S.A., signed the charter of the worldwide Responsible Care initiative. Mr. Franke thereby committed Herkula, as a member of the Federation of the Chemical Industry, to work continuously to improve safety standards for protecting employees and the community.

With the creation of its own factory fire department, an important fundamental principle is realized: improved safety for factory employees and the citizens of the surrounding community.

The 16 member team (15 men and 1 woman) was trained by the St.Vith Fire Department. They regularly practice fire service drill, with two fire engines one with turntable ladder (30m).
The Herkula Fire Department is at the disposal of the City and the State Fire Department when necessary.
